About the role
Mater has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Digital Infrastructure Specialist Lead to join our Digital Technology team.
The Senior Digital Infrastructure Lead role will focus on the design, deployment, support and management of Mater's core infrastructure platforms, with primary responsibility for virtual server, compute, storage and associated infrastructure services. The role provides senior subject matter expertise across VMware technologies, Windows Server platforms, storage, backup and recovery solutions, ensuring the stability, security and performance of critical enterprise environments.
As a leader within the infrastructure area, this role mentors team members at an operational level in the integrated operation of complex enterprise infrastructure to achieve defined service levels and provides assistance to other business area solutions as part of a multi-skilled team. This includes supporting and maintaining storage arrays, Mater's local VMware environment and standalone or Windows servers which may be physical or virtual.
In addition, the role contributes to Mater's evolving Cloud Services capability through the adoption of modern infrastructure practices and technologies, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, Azure platform engineering, hybrid cloud solutions and cloud governance. Working collaboratively across Digital Technology and Information teams, the role helps ensure infrastructure services remain scalable, secure and aligned to Mater's future technology direction.
This is a full-time, 12 month maximum-term contract based at our Newstead and South Brisbane Office.
Salary range: $70.32 - $75.47 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you'll be doing
- Lead the delivery of professional, timely and effective infrastructure support services, including the identification and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Design, deploy, manage and support virtual servers, Windows server environments and virtualisation technologies across Mater.
- Provide specialist expertise across VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN and NSX, as well as on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of hybrid infrastructure solutions integrating VMware and Microsoft Azure services.
- Lead small to medium infrastructure projects including system upgrades, configuration, integration and business efficiency initiatives.
- Develop and design specialised infrastructure solutions that support technology strategies and complex healthcare systems and business applications.
- Contribute to Mater’s cloud maturity through Infrastructure as Code, automation, Azure platform engineering and cloud governance.
- Research emerging technologies and provide expert advice and recommendations on infrastructure options, service continuity, capacity and demand planning.
- Provide technical advice to IT teams, projects and leadership on technology, implementation approaches, operational requirements and resourcing.
- Lead the creation and review of infrastructure management documentation, processes and technical standards.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and business system issues using highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Work collaboratively with Applications and other Digital Technology and Information teams to ensure the smooth operation of infrastructure services.
- Mentor and support less senior team members, sharing technical knowledge and expertise.
- Explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Operate within Mater’s ITIL framework and ensure infrastructure services meet agreed service levels.
About you
You are an experienced infrastructure specialist who enjoys working with complex technology environments and solving challenging technical problems. You bring strong technical expertise alongside the communication and collaboration skills needed to work effectively across a large organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Six or more years’ experience in critical IT support and delivery environments.
- Extensive experience with VMware technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, vSAN and NSX.
- Proven experience managing Windows Server and virtualisation environments within a large organisation.
- Demonstrated experience delivering IT systems, infrastructure projects or project coordination.
- Demonstrated experience or strong capability in technologies that enhance Mater's Cloud Services capability, capacity and maturity, including Azure platform engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), infrastructure automation, cloud governance, hybrid cloud architecture and cloud migration initiatives.
- Strong understanding of ITIL principles and their application within IT operations.
- Experience with, or strong capability in, Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud environments, Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure automation.
- Experience integrating and managing on-premises VMware platforms with Microsoft Azure services.
- Knowledge of modern infrastructure technologies and practices such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, PowerShell, DevOps and Platform Engineering will be highly regarded.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, consult and explain complex technical matters to a range of audiences.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work through issues that may not be governed by established procedures.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines while maintaining a strong customer focus.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring less senior team members and sharing technical knowledge and expertise.
A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related discipline, relevant industry certifications and ITIL Foundation or Microsoft Azure certifications will be highly regarded.
