At Mater, great learning starts with exceptional design. We're looking for an experienced and collaborative Instructional Designer to join our Learning Systems team to develop engaging, practical and high-quality digital learning experiences for Mater people.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader – Learning Systems, you will lead the instructional design of digital learning solutions that support capability development, organisational priorities and the needs of Mater people. This is a permanent, full-time role based at Mater’s corporate Newstead office. Mater supports flexible working arrangements, with a combination of on-site and remote working available in line with team and organisational needs.

Working closely with Subject Matter Experts, business stakeholders, educators and the broader Human Resources team, you'll translate complex information and learning needs into clear, engaging and learner-centred digital experiences.

You'll be a key instructional design specialist within the Learning Systems team, providing expert advice, design direction and quality assurance across digital learning initiatives. You'll also work closely with the Digital Learning Producer to bring learning concepts to life through effective use of multimedia and contemporary digital production.

You’ll play an important role in ensuring our learning is not only engaging but genuinely supports people to perform effectively in their roles.

Salary range: $108,207 - $117,732 per annum plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you'll be doing

As our Instructional Designer, you'll create engaging, learner-centred digital learning experiences that support exceptional educational outcomes by:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining high-quality e-learning content and digital learning resources using contemporary adult learning and instructional design principles.
  • Developing online courses, assessments, quizzes and multimedia learning content within the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Collaborating with Program Owners, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Teachers and key stakeholders to create engaging, effective and compliant learning solutions.
  • Providing expert advice on instructional design, e-learning development, authoring standards and digital learning best practice.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and continuously improving online learning resources, templates, user experience and course effectiveness.
  • Troubleshooting learning content and LMS-related issues while supporting ongoing system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality customer service throughout the design and development process.
  • Ensuring all learning resources align with contemporary educational practice, Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) requirements and Mater quality standards.

About you

You're a creative and collaborative learning designer who is passionate about developing engaging digital learning experiences. You enjoy partnering with subject matter experts to transform complex information into meaningful, learner-centred content that supports employee success.

You'll also bring:

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing engaging digital learning across varied audiences and levels of complexity.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning and instructional design principles, with the ability to turn complex content into clear, effective learning experiences.
  • Experience using contemporary digital learning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise or similar.
  • Strong writing, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities independently and work confidently with Subject Matter Experts and other stakeholders.

It would be great if you also have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Three to five years' experience designing learning materials for diverse audiences across varying levels of complexity.
  • Experience in a large, complex or healthcare environment, with knowledge of multimedia, accessibility and contemporary learning technologies.
