About the role

Mater Hospital South Brisbane, Rehabilitation Unit is currently seeking an experienced Allied Health Assistant to join their team on a permanent part-time basis working 28.5 hours a week.

The Physiotherapy department at Mater Health provides a broad range of public and private acute health services with adults, women’s health, neonatology, children and adolescent services. The Rehabilitation Physiotherapy team provides specialist services to inpatients and outpatients in a primarily private setting.  The team encompasses Physiotherapists and assistants who are passionate about delivering evidence based, high level physiotherapy clinical care across a 7 days per week service in a multidisciplinary environment. Physiotherapy employees may be required to work across facilities, service and/or sites as required.

Salary range: $33.19 - $34.67 (OO3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As an active member of the multidisciplinary team, Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) support the delivery of direct and non-direct clinical activities. In accordance with strategic priorities, AHAs also participate in allied health activities and the development of innovative models of care to benefit patients and their carers/families.

  • Manage patient caseload and provide clinical assessments and treatments as delegated by an allied health practitioner
  • Document session outcomes and changes in patient status, providing feedback to the delegating practitioner
  • Assist with patient care, including programs, education, equipment ordering, documentation, personal care, and transportation
  • Coordinate with delegated practitioner when additional input is needed
  • Supervise, train, and support allied health assistant students and volunteers
  • Set up and maintain therapy rooms, equipment, resources, and assistive devices
  • Support patients and practitioners with telehealth setup and troubleshooting
  • Develop and maintain clinical resources and patient education materials
  • Manage stock and order clinical equipment, supplies, and consumables
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities for enhanced clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Collaborate with professional and multidisciplinary teams and liaise with patients and external agencies for patient-centered care
  • Participate in training and development activities to enhance clinical knowledge and skills
  • Participate in the allied health assistant rotation program (if applicable)

About you

  • Certificate IV or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with clinical practice in allied health
  • Ability to work autonomously in a complex and demanding work environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with professional and multidisciplinary teams, patients, and carers
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in computer and digital literacy
  • Experience in a hospital, sub-acute, disability, or community health setting preferred
