About the role
Mater’s Supply Chain Operations currently has an opportunity for a Purchasing Officer to join the team in a permanent full-time role based at Bundaberg.
The Purchasing Officer is responsible for delivering transactional purchasing activities that support the procurement of goods and services across Mater. The role ensures timely, accurate and compliant processing of purchase requests, supports inventory and financial processes, and provides responsive customer service to internal stakeholders. The position contributes to maintaining efficient procurement operations and achieving service delivery outcomes.
Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Process purchase requisitions and generate purchase orders in a timely and accurate manner in line with operational requirements.
- Support the delivery of purchasing services to clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to ensure continuity of supply.
- Maintain accurate records of purchasing transactions and ensure supporting documentation is complete.
- Assist with resolving routine purchasing, supplier or system-related queries.
- Monitor and follow up outstanding orders, including backorders, to support service delivery.
- Support cost-effective purchasing practices by using approved suppliers, contracts and pricing arrangements.
- Assist with goods receipting, invoice matching and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with delegated authority limits and financial procedures.
- Identify and escalate discrepancies or issues impacting financial accuracy.
- Comply with Mater procurement policies, procedures and relevant standards.
- Ensure purchasing documentation and transactions meet audit and compliance requirements.
- Identify and report risks, including non-compliance or process issues.
- Maintain awareness of workplace health and safety obligations relevant to procurement activities.
- Work collaboratively within the purchasing team to achieve service and operational outcomes.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Provide responsive and professional communication to stakeholders regarding purchasing matters.
- Support knowledge sharing and consistent practices within the team environment.
- Take accountability for the accuracy, timeliness and quality of purchasing activities.
- Respond to enquiries and resolve routine issues within established procedures and guidelines.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities to enhance procurement processes and service delivery.
- Maintain proficiency in procurement systems (e.g. D365 or equivalent) and follow established procedures.
- Seek guidance when required and escalate more complex matters appropriately.

- Desirable – Level 1 Procurement Certification
Skills, knowledge and experience
- Sound understanding of purchasing or procurement processes within a structured environment.
- Experience using procurement or ERP systems (e.g. D365 or similar).
- Ability to accurately process transactional work with attention to detail.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Effective communication skills with ability to liaise with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Problem-solving capability to address routine purchasing queries.
