Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Supervisor - Cook to join us in a permanent, full-time role. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Salary range: $38.01 - $41.57 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As the Supervisor – Cook at Mater Springfield, you’ll lead and support kitchen operations to deliver high-quality meals safely and efficiently. You’ll oversee food preparation and service, maintain standards, and ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Supervise and assist chefs in preparing and presenting hot and cold dishes for patients and buffet service
- Ensure all food is prepared to standard recipes, portion sizes, and quality requirements
- Oversee stock control, storage, and labelling procedures to minimise waste and maintain food safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work area and ensure equipment is in good working order
- Promote a positive safety culture, reporting incidents or hazards promptly
- Support training, teamwork, and performance across the kitchen team
About you
You’re a qualified and experienced cook or chef who leads by example and thrives in a fast-paced, team environment. You’re passionate about delivering nutritious, high-quality meals and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
You will have:
- Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent trade qualifications)
- Experience supervising kitchen staff, ideally in a hospital or healthcare environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and special dietary needs
- Excellent communication, team leadership, and time management skills
- The ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements while maintaining quality and efficiency
