About the role
Mater Health is seeking a Clinical Director of Anaesthesia to join Mater Hospital Brisbane. Reporting to the Director of Critical Care Services, this role will focus on effective leadership, strategic development, and management for the Department of Anaesthetics.
The Clinical Director has responsibilities encompassing all domains of the quadruple aim – outcomes, stewardship, consumer experience and Mater People. This role is both a clinical leader to the team, but also collaborates with other Mater leaders, and is Mater’s reference point for matters of policy, practice, outcomes, and risk in the clinical speciality across all Mater Hospitals.
This role leads the anaesthetics department at our South Brisbane campus, providing service to Mater Hospital Brisbane, Mater Mothers Hospital and Mater Mothers Private Brisbane. Mater Hospital Brisbane is a Level 6 training facility, with ED, ICU, CCU, Cancer Centre, and busy medical and surgical units with subspecialty services. Mater Mothers Hospitals are Australia largest maternity service - a 200-bed 79-cot dedicated women’s hospital servicing both public and privately funded patients, managing more than 10,000 births, 2,000 neonatal admissions and 850 intensive care admissions each year.
Salary: The Clinical Director role is remunerated as per the Mater Medical Officer Agreement (which is aligned to the Queensland Health EA). In addition
What you’ll be doing
You will provide leadership and direction for the team and ensure a collegial and focused approach towards the provision of clinical services, aligned with the Hospital’s Operational Plan and the Mater Group Strategy. You will also:
- To participate in strategic, operational and workforce planning, growing Mater’s business in priority areas, developing contemporary models of care and implementing appropriate clinical pathways – applicable across the Group.
- To assist Mater in meeting contract, revenue, and service delivery KPIs, and ensure the effective and efficient use of workforce and resources in the provision of clinical services.
- To ensure that team members have time available to participate in regular quality assurance, education, research and continuing professional development activities aligned to organisational need.
- To adhere to and promote risk minimisation strategies; identify and address educational needs, contribute to policy review, and ensure timely responses to incident reporting.
- To oversee the program of training fellows, registrars, and residents, and assist Mater in meeting training accreditation standards.
- To utilise contemporary human resource management practices and principles including workplace health and safety, diversity, and inclusion.
- To build relationships with general practitioners, public/private specialists, and relevant external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other Directors, Nursing / Midwifery Directors and General Managers as required, and participate in relevant craft-group and quality meetings across the Mater Group.
About you
Qualifications: you will have Registration as Specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Authority and comprehensive experience as a specialist in the field. You will also meet the criteria:
- Demonstrated experience in directing and managing a department would be highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in the education and training of junior and senior medical staff.
Demonstrated previous involvement in research or quality or risk management activities.
