About the role

Mater is looking for a trade qualified Refrigeration Mechanic to join the team! This is a permanent, full-time position based at our South Brisbane campus.

This role will see you carry out repairs and maintenance tasks to Mater facilities as directed by the Electrical & HVAC Manager or relevant delegate in order to maintain the Mater facilities in a safe and well-presented condition ensuring all work is performed in a timely, cost-effective manner to prescribed quality standards and to meet customer needs.

Salary range: $39.90 - $46.00 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Ensure effective communication with the Manager and Trade co-ordinator on a regular basis throughout the day on issues regarding daily work plan and work activities
  • Participate in the planning and development of maintenance and renovation programs for the facilities
  • Advise on preferred maintenance practises as required utilising trade and technical knowledge
  • Participate in the process of providing quotations for work as required
  • Participate in the process of ordering and maintaining stock levels as required
  • Provide quality technical skills and knowledge to ensure all work is completed in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Participate in the training and development of apprentices by providing technical guidance and supervision
  • Interact and coordinate effectively with workshop team members and other trade disciplines to ensure positive job outcomes on multi trade tasks
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a manner providing the safety of patients, visitors and staff whilst ensuring all access and services are maintained where practical
  • Record accurate data on all work orders processed via the relevant electronic management systems
  • Utilise building management software to manage and troubleshoot HVAC related infrastructure
  • Promptly acknowledge responses to concerns and requests made by stakeholders
  • Work together with other maintenance personnel and management in coordinating and collaborating with the team
  • Provide 24hour maintenance service by participating in on-call roster
  • Comply with all authorised duties as directed by the Manager or his delegate
  • To observe all safe working practices as directed by the supervisor and use of personal protective equipment as provided
  • Report all accidents, incidents, near misses and hazardous situations arising in the course of work
  • Comply with the requirements of workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination practices and behaviour in the work environment

About you

You will have a Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and meet the below criteria.

  • Restricted Electrical Licence
  • Current CPR/LVR certificate
  • ARC Refrigerant Handling Licence
  • Construction industry safety induction (white) card
  • An understanding of Occupational, Health, Safety and Welfare Legislation and Regulations pertaining to Refrigeration and Air-conditioning
  • Demonstrated experience in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning maintenance
  • Hold a current “C” Class Motor Driver’s Licence
