About the role

Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast is seeking an Advanced Clinical Coder to work within our Clinical Coding Service. This position is open to being employed on a casual, part-time or full-time basis. Mater has finalised the strategic acquisition of Healthscope’s Gold Coast Private Hospital, this is a significant milestone in Mater’s commitment to delivering exceptional and compassionate care to Queensland communities.

Based at our Gold Coast Campus, this role will be part of our state-of-the-art 339 bed facility located in Southport. This facility was established in 2016 and offers a wide range of specialities across Emergency, Medical Services, Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, Neurosurgery, Plastics, ENT, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Cardiac Care and Oncology. 

Salary range: $54.57 - $59.38 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements 
  • Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards 
  • Meet standards of coding accuracy and awareness of DRG assignment and the impact on potential funding 
  • Identification of unclear or ambiguous documentation and subsequent initiation of coding queries 
  • Participate in coding audit, quality and education to expand coding skills 
  • Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security with the medical environment 

About you

You will have a HIMAA Introductory/Intermediate Clinical Coding Course/Certificate IV in Clinical Classification (or equivalent). You will also have: 

  • Minimum five years experience working as a Clinical Coder 
  • Up to date Clinical Coding knowledge using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS 
  • Experience using 3M Codefinder 
  • Strong organisation skills in planning, prioritising and managing workloads 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work within a team environment 
  • Understanding of private sector funding models (Desirable) 
  • Experience using WebPAS, iPM, and scanned medical records (Desirable)
