About the role
Mater is seeking a dedicated Speech Pathologist to join our dynamic team at Mater South Brisbane on a full-time temporary basis (12 months parental leave cover) from late January 2026. . This is an exciting opportunity to provide expert care for adult experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties across a diverse range of clinical specialties. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative environment within Queensland’s largest not-for-profit healthcare service, delivering compassionate, patient-centred care that truly makes a difference.
Salary range: $39.86 to $58.59 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will independently deliver routine clinical speech pathology services, assessing and treating patients with communication and swallowing impairments across acute and subacute caseloads. The successful candidate will work predominantly with acute medical, surgical and oncology inpatients, as well as inpatient rehabilitation. There may also be an opportunity to work in an outpatient setting. . You will work collaboratively Speech Pathology Allied Health Assistants and multidisciplinary teams to support patient outcomes. You will receive regular professional supervision and support, commensurate with your level of experience, and be supported to undertake quality improvement activities and student supervision as a part of this role. There may also be the opportunity for upskilling in areas of specialist areas
About you
To be considered for this position you should have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology
- Current or eligible membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA); Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status highly desirable
- A current Blue Card
- Availability to participate in a weekend (Saturday) and Public Holiday Speech Pathology service
- Previous experience in acute hospital speech pathology services including video fluoroscopic swallow study and/or tracheostomy management experience is highly desirable but not essential;
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, evidenced based speech pathology services in the areas of dysphagia and acquired communication impairments to an adult population, with minimal supervision required;
- Experience in acute hospital speech pathology services is highly desirable but not essential
- Eligibility for a Medicare provider number
- Strong clinical judgement and ability to manage a diverse caseload
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills within multidisciplinary settings
- Willingness and flexibility to participate in weekend rosters as required
