Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Scientist to join us in a permanent, full-time role. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s newest public hospital, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $39.86 - $58.59 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will apply independent scientific judgement and knowledge of quality control processes in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the accurate, timely verification and validation of test results across Haematology including coagulation.

  • Work cooperatively and communicate effectively, with Pathology staff and with internal and external clients, including clinicians
  • Have well developed interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently when required
  • Impart and learn scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning by contributing to Laboratory meetings and engaging in professional development activities
  • Utilise scientific and professional judgement in decision making
  • Participate in the quality assurance processes expected within a Haematology Laboratory, including external quality assurance programs

About you

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification and having completed subjects in advanced Haematology.

  • Experience in a general Haematology laboratory including transfusion and coagulation. Competency in complex morphology including in the areas of haematological oncology and neonatology would be an advantage
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary Stat lab would be an advantage
  • Analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to critically evaluate results
