About the role

The Mater Hospital Brisbane (MHB) Perioperative Services team have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated Operating Theatre Assistant (Theatre Orderly) to work within the Operating Suite, on-site at South Brisbane. You will play a key role to provide a quality and safe care to adult and obstetric patients requiring surgical intervention.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity.

Salary range: $33.19 - $34.67 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The primary responsibilities of this role includes:

  • Supporting the Operating Suite team by assisting with patient positioning, preparing theatres, and maintaining cleanliness while restocking supplies
  • Providing, arranging and verifying all necessary equipment for theatre lists procedures
  • Employing safe techniques for patient and material handling to ensure a secure environment for patients, oneself and team members.
  • Upholding infection control standards by adhering to standard protocols and any additional precautions
  • Disposing of waste and handling soiled linen appropriately.
  • Theatre terminal cleaning.

About you

To be successful in your application for this position:

Essential

  • Strong work ethic
  • Works well independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Available to do shift work, weekdays and weekends
  • Commitment to quality patient care

Desirable

  • Have obtained a Certificate III in Health Care Support (Operating Theatre Practice) or Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
  • Minimum of two years previous experience in an Operating Theatre Assistant role would be highly desirable
  • Experience in a hospital environment
