About the role

Catherine’s House is a world-class, perinatal, and infant mental health integrated model of care, providing both inpatient and outpatient services to public and private consumers. This role sits within the Families in Mind Team which is one of the outpatient/community services. The outpatient Perinatal Mental Health Services includes the Parenting Support Centre, Parent Aide Unit, Perinatal Psychology Team, Outpatient Consultant Psychiatrist Clinic and Families in Mind, which includes the Together in Mind group program. These combined services support mothers and families during the perinatal and postnatal period and referral reasons may include antenatal/postnatal anxiety, birth trauma, adjustment to parenting, emotional distress and low mood during the perinatal period.

This position is a permanent, full-time senior clinical role providing clinical care to mothers and fathers across the perinatal period in the Families in Mind Service, working collaboratively with the broader multidisciplinary team, and will report to the Team Leader of Intake, Community and Outpatient Services for Catherine’s House. The successful candidate will work with various professionals across Mater Health and requires a well-developed interpersonal, problem solving and consumer focused skillset. They may be involved in education, research, service improvement and operational activities allocated by the manager.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

The role involves but is not limited to -

  • Provide a high quality mental health out-patient service to mother-baby dyads and their families.
  • Deliver evidence-based mental health assessment, and group and individual interventions, within the framework of the Families in Mind Service
  • Develop cross sectoral partnerships (including local catchment GPs, community mental health services, NGOs, maternity services, etc, to facilitate referrals from customers.
  • To provide perinatal mental health assessment and recovery orientated therapeutic interventions that ensure families receive consistent coordinated care that addresses their psychological and emotional needs from conception up to 12 months postpartum.
  • To coordinate and deliver the Together in Mind (TiM) program which is a collaborative 6 week mother- infant outpatient group program.
  • TiM training can be provided to the successful applicant.
  • Ensure effective record keeping for both mother and infant in accordance with required standards including completion of information supporting clinical activity reporting i.e., Consumer Integrated Mental Health Application (CIMHA)
  • Practice in accordance with relevant legislation, Acts and agreements, workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination practices.
  • Ensure case review has the clinical governance from a Consultant Psychiatrist from Adult/Perinatal Mental Health and Psychiatrist from Child and Youth Mental Health
  • Work with the QCPIMH team, regarding ongoing data collection and program development requirements
  • Attend relevant state-wide forums to support ongoing service development
  • Provision of relevant in-service and education to staff across the HHS

 About you

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to provide skilled mental health clinical assessment and interventions
  • Demonstrated clinical practice and application of clinical judgement in the provision of high quality, evidence based, patient centred care, preferably within an acute mental health inpatient setting
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with professional and multi-disciplinary teams, patients and carers to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire skills to identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Demonstrated commitment to participate in ongoing professional development and research opportunities

Qualifications:

Psychology:

  • General Registration via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Eligibility for accreditation or current Board approved Supervisor status with the Psychology Board of Australia or actively working towards is highly desirable
  • Psychology Board of Australia Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical or Educational and Developmental Psychology or working towards is highly desirable

Social Work:

  • A degree in Social Work that provides eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW). Tertiary qualifications for Social Work from overseas institutions require the applicant to include official notification from AASW that the qualification has been assessed as eligible for membership
  • Mental Health Accreditation is desirable

Occupational Therapy:

  • General Registration via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Mental Health Accreditation and/or experience working with adult mental health consumers is desirable

Clinical Nurse:

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and a current annual practicing certificate
  • Are an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) in Queensland or you meet the requirements to apply for recognition as an AMHP
  • The successful applicant has or is willing to work towards specialist mental health nursing and/or perinatal and infant mental health qualifications.
  • Credentialed Mental Health Nurse with the ACMHN or you are willing to work towards same is highly desirable
