Catherine’s House is Australia’s first integrated centre for perinatal mental health care and provides mental health treatment and support to new parents.

We have an exciting fixed-term, part-time position available (0.6 FTE) for an experienced Psychologist looking to join the team! In this role you will work across the inpatient mother-baby unit and the outpatient private day program. With one in five mums and up to one in ten fathers experiencing depression, anxiety and other mental health issues before or after the birth of a child, this new facility will triple the number of public beds in Queensland from 4 to 12 for families in need of perinatal mental health support.

Salary range: $61.81 - $66.48 (HP4) per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the Clinical Lead for the Perinatal Psychology team, you will provide high level of expertise in the assessment and treatment of perinatal women accessing our service. As part of the leadership team you will work closely with the team leader and the consultant psychiatrist within the outpatient setting to develop effective interventions for consumers and be involved in ongoing Quality Improvement Activities. You will deliver brief psychological interventions to pregnant women and new mothers and provide guidance and supervision to less experienced members of the team. Maintaining and enhancing relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders is a critical part of this role.

Typical tasks include:

  • Independently undertake clinical practice within established clinical protocols to achieve patient focussed outcomes
  • Provide sound clinical judgement to more complex cases referred to the Perinatal Psychology team
  • Provide delegation, supervision, training and support to less experienced health practitioners, students, support staff and volunteers in the delivery of clinical services
  • Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within professional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ensuring key performance indicators are achieved within agreed timeframes
  • Identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Actively participate in translating research into practice
  • Actively participate in professional and multidisciplinary teams, and liaise with patients, their families/carers and external agencies to facilitate patient centred care
  • Participate in continuing professional development activities to further develop clinical practice and expertise
  • Contribute to the learning and development of the team through clinical education and clinical supervision

About you

We are searching for someone who is/has the following essential qualifications:

General registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) / Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current annual practising certificate.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Clinical or Educational & Developmental Psychology.
  • Working towards or attained PsyBA approved supervisor.
  • Working towards or attained PsyBA area of practice endorsement in Clinical or Educational & Developmental Psychology

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in provision of Psychology services, ideally in a perinatal mental health setting
  • Demonstrated clinical practice and application of clinical judgement in the provision of high quality, evidence based, patient centred care
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ablity to work co-operatively with profession and multi-disciplinary teams, patients and carers to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability or ability to rapidly acquire skills to identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes and/or research
